LSU paved their way to 1-0 in the record books by defeating Louisiana-pick-a-direction-school-for-the-disadvantaged-but-we-want-that-big-game-day-money. Couldn’t really tell you what happened because the massacre started early and it was over when I turned it on….the game was still on, I just didn’t recognize anyone other than Jimmy, the equipment manager who was playing free safety.

Bama squeaked by Hawaii……John Parker Phillips had a good game, the running game is intact…….Bama had problems defensively because this no-name Hawaii team should have been ran out of the stadium.

Ole Miss eeeeks by Memphis. Schaeffer did just enough to make sure OM did not get beat. If UM had any QB other than the 4th stringer, this game could have went the other way.

Auburn had very little problems with Washington State. Kenny Irons delievered as normal for the War Eagles. Carl Stewart added another score. The QB position looked a little rougher than last season, but give the WR corps time to gel.

Week #1 of the SEC East schedule is (finally) in the books.

Thursday’s game featured (?) South Carolina at Mississippi State. This game was like watching paint dry. It was difficult to tell if both defenses were simply THAT good or if both offenses were THAT bad. SC won 15-0.

UT versus Cal turned out to a total debacle. 9th ranked Cal was a 2 point dog coming into Neyland Stadium and left absolutely spanked. While the Kool Aide drinkers on Rocky Top are all chanting the praises of Erik Ainge, dissecting the game is easy: Syd Thompson, a true freshman left corner for the Golden Bears can not tackle. A 6 yard pass to Robert Meachem turned into an 80 yard touchdown. A 5 yard run by Monterrio Hardesty turned into a brilliant looking long td run. Another short reception by Meachem turned into a long gain…….see a pattern here? While UT played above and beyond their outmanned counterparts, much is being said about absolutely nothing. UT would still have won this contest, but the outcome would have been more in the range of 17-7. The UT defense was a bright spot for the Vols. Swarming to the ball on every play, the defense limited the Cal offense severely. The defense on this team is the real deal…..the offense? We will find out in week #3 when the Florida Gators come to Neyland Stadium.

Georgia had their way with Western KY, the highlight of the game occurred on an UGA punt return that was fumbled through the back of the endzone…the next punt was also returned the distance, this time for a TD.

Florida struggled early on against the Southern Miss Eagles. Leak threw an INT on the 3rd snap of the game that was converted into the only Golden Eagle score of the night. UF’s defense looked good the entire game while the offense obviously needs some work. Leak was pressured most of the night; however, put up decent stats. The running game needs work again this season, but that will come in time as the offensive line grows.

Vandy was the sacrificial lamb for the University of MeatChicken’s opening day. The MeatChicken team isHIGHLY over rated.
